Approx. reading time:
Manila – Coding is back this week and motorists are working on adjusting. The hours have been limited to rush hour, but is a color coding scheme really the answer to our traffic problem? Nope. And neither is a cable car.
One option could be to follow London’s congestion laws. They charge cars that go through Central London. The fee is called a “congestion charge” and it makes you think twice before driving there. Implementing something like that in the major Central Business Districts may discourage people from driving through them.
This approach has lowered traffic in central London by 15%.
It’s time to consider if our traffic policy is working. Perhaps we need a different, more sei-katsu-sha approach, something that takes our behavior into account. Our coding scheme has been in place in one way or another for over 25 years, maybe it’s time we try something else.
