There is no correct timeline for success

People say Gen-Z has it easy when it comes to making a career. We grew up with the internet, and have used it for a majority of our lives, therefore we have access to readily available information, trends, news, and anything that gives us an advantage. But not only do many people have that advantage, we are also showered with posts and stories about people who are not only the same age or younger, but doing seemingly much better career-wise.

Very often we see on social media people who have “made it” at such a young age, but rather than inspire us, we start to compare.

“Why didn’t I do this 3 years ago”

“Why didn’t I pursue my ideas back then”

“I worked so hard, why haven’t I made it?”

Picture this.

Congrats you’ve graduated!

In your 20s, it is time to start applying for a job that will keep you paying the bills.

In your 30s, you’ve married your long-time partner, then become a parent.

In your 40s, You work for your family, Then what?

in your 50s, save up for retirement, and then?

in your 60s you spend your retirement

What if you’re like Stan Lee giving birth to our Marvel superheroes by the age of 39?  or even the local celebs in our country graduated after their 30s, 40s, and 50s? How about our fellow Pinoys like Lola Leticia, a 60-year-old Lola who graduated from elementary school, or Roland Abante, a Cebuano who joined “America’s Got Talent”?

He was a fisherman, a habal-habal driver, and a delivery man. He sang his heart out and he was given a standing ovation by the audience, and a yes from the judges to proceed to the next round.

He’s also 44 years old.

There is no deadline for success. This constant exposure to young, successful people leads to us gaslighting ourselves into believing that we have to be on the same time frame, but it doesn’t work like that. For every young person who has “made it”, there are probably hundreds more that are still in the process of realizing their dreams.
