Puregold’s hit mini-series, Ang Lalaki sa Likod ng Profile, gained 130,000 to 200,000 views each episode throughout its release. This milestone led Puregold to attain 200,000 subscribers on their Youtube channel, a first-ever for a retail business.

The story of Ang Lalaki sa Likod ng Profile follows the story of Bryce and Angge’s developing love story from an online setting to the real world. Despite its cliche title, the series attracted viewers due to its relatable, funny, and kilig moments contributing to its online popularity.

While mini-series are not a new thing on the internet, a lot of remarkable Filipino mini-series popped out on YouTube during the pandemic years. Unlike the shows that air on traditional television that require releasing episodes every day, the YouTube platform gives creators more time to release episodes every week avoiding prolonging the story and adding unnecessary fillers. The platform opened doors for Filipino creatives, giving them the freedom to develop series with great plots and LGBTQ+ themes that are often underrepresented in mainstream television.

Filipinos have a tendency to compare our TV shows to other countries, but the shows that have gone viral have shown that we can also achieve the same level of quality. Many of these online mini-series were able to show excellent camera work, well-written scripts, and engaging stories that surpass some modern TV series that fail to deliver the same quality.

Some of the Filipino mini-series that have gained popularity online are Sleep with Me, The Broken Marriage Vow Filipino version, and The Day I Loved You. These shows have resonated with different types of audiences, showcasing the creativity and talent of the Filipino people beyond television.
