In 2022, there were speculations that, under Elon’s leadership, approximately 32.7 million people would leave Twitter within two years. Many users are already expressing their dissatisfaction with how Twitter has evolved since Elon’s involvement, and making jokes about its downfall.
Recently, Elon Musk made a surprising announcement about the rebranding of Twitter to a new identity, “X.” The familiar, friendly blue bird that once represented a platform for sharing fleeting thoughts has disappeared. Now, the atmosphere feels colder and more mechanized, leading some to believe that this outcome was somewhat anticipated since Elon took charge.
Elon Musk began experimenting with Twitter’s algorithm, determining which posts would receive more visibility. He also made adjustments to the platform’s rules and regulations, unbanning certain users while monetizing the blue verification check mark. Additionally, he recently imposed restrictions on the number of posts unverified users can view compared to verified users.
Moreover, the app now aims to be a “super app” with online payment and shopping functions, which Tiktok and Meta have already done.

Gone are the days when Twitter still appealed to its users with its user-friendly interface and great user experience. These recent changes made users flee to other platforms such as Tumblr and Threads; however, these apps don’t give the same level of community and experience that Twitter had provided for them before.
There was once a time when Twitter was admired for its ability to showcase artists and individuals who stood for important causes, granting them the recognition they deserved on social media. Now, the presence of a blue checkmark seems to have lost its significance, making it feel more like email spam than a mark of authenticity. It’s both irritating and fake.
Twitter is losing the original essence of the app and its users are expressing their disappointment and leaving the app. This just shows Elon Musk’s lack of knowledge of user experience, and his refusal to listen to user demands. All of these are consequences of letting a greedy businessman, who prioritizes profit over user satisfaction, handle a social media platform.
