The term ‘lazy girl job’ is taking over the internet as young people share their changing work attitudes. This prompted debates and disagreements, especially from older generations. But, what exactly is a lazy girl job? Are Gen Zs slacking off at work?

Tiktoker Gabrielle Judge, also known as the ‘Lazy Girl Job’ Girl, coined the workplace term. In one of her videos, Judge explained that it is a quiet quitting redux that permits employees to work remotely with flexible hours, is physically safe, and gives a comfortable salary. The word ‘lazy’ rejects traditional ‘hustle culture’, and contrary to what is believed, ‘laziness’ does not denote that they are unwilling or unmotivated.

Achieving work-life harmony is the priority of younger generations. In a fast-paced and demanding world, this is an approach by Gen Zs to reject the customary practice of going above and beyond what’s expected. Instead, it normalizes the idea of leaning out

For Gen Zs, a job should not feel demanding or wearying. What is important for these youngsters is to prioritize their mental health and enjoy a life outside of work. They desire a career aligned with their skills, interests, and personal values, which also contributes positively to their growth and well-being.

Ultimately, these Gen Zs are giving. As these youngsters dominate the workforce, they will continue to make workflow modifications. They will challenge the conventional idea of ‘career success’ and ‘work productivity’. And although change is bothersome, it is necessary to create a better working environment not only for their sake but for everyone else’s.
